So the US retired it’s space shuttle, Discovery. For its last ride, it sat on top of a modified Boeing 747 for a ride around the DC area, and finally to touch down at Washington Dulles International Airport. Then, it will be transferred to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum nearby. Now, that’s history and I was part of it!
I left all the work and ran to the sidewalk to wait for it. It passed by two times in less than 15 minutes. I was able to catch a few shots.

The Boeing was so close and loud. It was amazing. A great feeling and a very cool view.
That’s one of the advantages of living near DC. You get to be part of some cool incidents that will be part of country’s history.

From My Mind to You

I added a few more pieces to my Etsy store today! I am absolutely in love with them.

I have been thinking about them and making them in my mind for a while now, I am so happy to finally have executed them, and now they are a finished complete product and just how I envisioned them!

I hope you are all having a great weekend.

Now i have a few other crafty projects waiting for me on the kitchen table. Catch you in the next post!

My Glorious Monday

If you don’t know yet, I am off on Mondays since I work 10 hours a day Tuesday- Friday. I love my work schedule and my 3-day weekends!

Yesterday, the weather was gorgeous; therefore, my sister and I decided to go to George Town, DC.

G Town is one of my favorite spots in the DC Metropolitan area. If you ever visit DC, you have to spend at least a day at George Town to visit all the cute little shops, the boutiques, the landmarks and historic sites.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am looking for furniture pieces for my office. We decided to visit CB2 & WestElm and I decided on the pieces I need!

We also stopped at Chipotle and had burritos for lunch, Zara 9where I tried to “control” my spending),  Urban Outfitters, and finally the cutest coffee shop Muncheez Mania, where we had the best crepes!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures from my Monday

Leftovers Revived

Saturday, April 7th, was my Mother In Law’s birthday, we all went out to Tara Thai, a Thai Restaurant in Vienna, VA. It was our first time there and definitely not our last. The food and service were outstanding. It was actually my first time trying the Thai Iced Tea as it was recommended by the owner. I quite enjoyed it. It had a different flavor, it was actually loaded with flavor. It wasn’t your typical iced tea. If you like trying different things, I suggest you add this to your list.

All the appetizers and the main dishes were very flavorful and delicious. We loved the Thai Basil aroma that was floating around the whole time. My favorite appetizer was the Chicken Satay that was served on a wooden stick with peanut sauce. It was very tender and flavorful. We had six main dishes, the Chicken Kapow was my favorite, a little spicy but delicious! After stuffing our faces with all that food, we decided to leave a window open for some Fried Banana & Coconut Ice cream and the infamous delicious Sticky Rice Mango. They both hit the spot and didn’t disappoint.

We had great time at the restaurant, enjoyed all the Thai dishes, and left home with some leftovers 🙂

Typically, we just reheat the left overs and indulge in them the next day; however, yesterday I decided to try a different approach. Here is what I cam up with: An Asian inspired Lemony Soup.

Image

1. I grabbed the two boxes of leftovers: Spicy chicken eggplant, and ginger sesame beef.

2. I added some coconut oil in a mid size pot, and left it to warm up.

3. I added the leftovers to the pot to warm them up for a couple minutes.

4. I added two handfulls of frozen veggies: corn, carrots, peas.

5. I added some fresh baby corn that I had. [you can basically add whatever vegetable you like]

6. I stared the mix until all the vegetable warmed up.

7. I added some freshly crushed black peppers and salt.

8. I added the whole carton of chicken broth [32oz.]

9. I added the juice of one freshly squeezed lemon.

10. stair it a few times and then let it boil.

11. I reduced the heat and add it some scallions at then end before serving.

The soup turned out delicious, especially with all the different flavor infusion and vegetables. I think I just discovered my new go to thing to do with leftovers!

I hope i inspired you to revive your leftovers.

Designer of the week: Dannijo

If you haven’t gotten the hint from my previous post, Dannijo is the designer of this week. It is founded by sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder in 2008, and hand-made in New York! They have amazing designs that I am absolutely in love with. Their recent collection, Mr. Dannijo, a collaboration with Man Repeller, is definitely my favorite.

Bustier

A bustier is one of the many clothing articles you need to own, especially for this summer. It is everywhere!

I mean, what a better piece can a girl own? No matter how edgy the piece is, it screams feminine when put on, especially with a high waisted bottom!

Ladies, take your bustiers out and flaunt those curves.

Office Room

Eight months ago, the hubby and I moved into our new townhouse. We knew that furnishing a house takes so much time and effort. However, we were very energetic at the beginning and got all the main rooms furnished in a couple months. After that, especially during the winter season, we got lazy and didn’t do any furnishing or decorating. It is spring now and I am tired of having the rest of the rooms used as storage! Having boxes laying around is not quite the prettiest scene for the eye; therefore, I decided to start working on one of the rooms this weekend.

The room has a full bathroom attached; therefore, it can make a great guest room as well. We’ve both decided on making that room into our office/guest room. It is the first room you see when entering the house, so I decided on a colorful and fun theme for it.

Here is my first inspiration board for the office room. This weekend, I want to hit West Elm, CB2, and possibly Z Gallerie for some furniture shopping. I cannot wait for the room to come to life!

I think I just figured the best economical way to store my jeans. I rolled each one and stacked it in this pretty pink storage box from ikea!
So far I love it!
There is no mess as long as you know which pants your going for and you put it in a place where you can reach easily 🙂

I am so excited!
I came back from my cruise to a wonderful surprise. Four customers placed orders on my Etsy store within two days. Oh wait, one more was placed today!
I am beyond thrilled. Can you imagine the feeling? Someone out there who lives in a completely different state, who is thousand s of miles away is wearing one of my pieces!

I am so thankful and happy. Spring started on a great note, I cannot wait to see what this summer will have for me.

I am so excited to try this natural organic line Nardo’s Natural. Four brothers are behind this company and I’ve heard great things about their products.

I will post a review on these products once I get to use them. However, I just tried their lip balm and Oh EM Gee it is so moisturizing. It feels like butter on your lips! I am in love already.

One more step closer to being an IOC.

Smackdown. MYGlam bag vs. BirchBox for March

This post will be direct and straight to the point. What I received from both subscriptions for the month of March and what I liked the most.

Image

Let’s start with MYGlam bag. I received it on March 11th, and here is the product breakdown:

As always, a cute mini makeup bag.

Pur-lisse Pur-Protect SPF30 Essential Daily Moisturizer.

Murad Eye Life Perfector.

DermStore $25 gift card.

Pur-lisse Pur-Lip Comfort Daily Lip Nourisher.

Keracolor Color Enhancing Leave-in treatment.

MyGlam Classic Crease Brush & Case.

What I like:

The Pur-Lisse lip nourisher & the crease brush. The other items will be used only once and normally they don’t capture my attention. Rarely could you judge a product from using it once!

Image

let’s move onto the Birchbox for this month. I received it today, March 12th. Here is the product breakdown:

Color club nail Lacquer in Age of Aquarius.

Harvey Prince Yogini perfume.

Juice Beauty blemish Clearing Cleanser.

Lulu Organics Lavender + Clay Sage Hair Powder

Stila Smokey Eye Card

Tea Forte Skin Smart Teas

What I like:

I am actually very excited to try all these samples from Birchbox. The sample sizes I received are very decent and way better than the MYGlam samples for this month. Now, it’s already spring and it is the time to start taking care of toning and cleansing your body; therefore, I am excited to be trying the Tea Forte packets. I received three flavors: Cucumber Mint, Honey Yuzu, and Cherry Marzipan. They all sound delicious. Oh how much I love tea!

Also, I am always down to trying new dry shampoos, this one smells delicious. The nail polish color is so pretty and perfect for the spring. The Yogini scent is very relaxing and the blemish cleaner is going to be very handy.

Bottom Line, who is the winner in my eyes for this month?

BirchBox is.

DIY Vintage Chanel Inspired Earings

I don’t know about you, but Chanel is my favorite designer. Their vintage jewelry are super glamourous, super gorgeous, and super expensive! Every time I see a pair online, I start drooling over it and day dreaming about it.

Today, I felt very crafty and went to both Michael’s and Jo-ann Fabrics. I was just wandering around their isles, and hoping for ideas and inspirations to pop out… and there it was.. the best looking buttons I have seen a while. They looked so fab and vintage inspired. They desperately needed to be more than just buttons. they wanted to be statement pieces, they wanted to be noticed, and most importantly, they wanted me to make them into beautiful stud earrings!

Image

Revamping them into earrings was so easy!

What you need:

1. a pair of cute buttons

2. A metal/plastic cutter

3. Brass Earrings’ backings

4. Hot glue gun + Glue Stick

Follow these easy steps:

Image

1. Remove the little loop-hole from the back of the button.

2. Add a dot of the hot glue in the center of the button (Where the loop-hole used to be).

3. Immediately, place the earring’s backing in the center on top of the glue, wait a few seconds, and Viola!

It cost me less than $5.00, aren’t they gorgeous?

happy Crafty Day!

Becoming an IOC?

The more I browse and read online about health, the more I realize we are surrounded by hazardous ingredients. Ingredients in the food we consume, the soap we use to cleanse our skin, and in my case, the makeup I use. I have never been oblivious about those ingredients, but I have been always lazy to do my own research and find out more information about his sensitive topic. However, I need to make this change. I need to increase my knowledge and educate myself. If I want to be healthy, then all aspects of my life style have to change. However, this is not going to happen overnight!

I will take you with me in this journey. My goal is to educate myself about a certain harmful ingredient every week. I want to know what it is, how it is used, what’s its consequences, where and in what is it used, and which products do not contain it.

This week, even though we are in the middle of the week already, I stumbled upon the chemical SLS – Sodium Laurel Sulfate. It is a chemical used in many products. To mention a few, it is used in car washes, food, children body washes, soap, cleansers, facial treatments, and tooth paste. Basically, it is an inexpensive effective foamer. It is used to produce that foam we see when we wash our faces and scrub our bodies.

If you feel that washing your face is making your skin dry, or that shampooing is giving you an itchy scalp or making your eyes sting, or that cleaning your teeth is giving you mouth ulcers, stop and check out the label. SLS is responsible for irritating the skin. One other effect of SLS is improper eye development in children as it affect protein structures in their eyes and keeps them from developing properly!

These are some serious issues associated with that ingredient. I have visited and read a few articles and some argue against all these allegations. Their argument is that SLS is in contact with the skin for a few seconds and then it is rinsed. If it got inside the eyes, it should be rinsed thoroughly. They argue that those few seconds of contact wont hurt. But the question I ask, is the foam worth it? Is it worth the risk of consuming products that contain SLS? My answer is no, not in my household.

I will be going home tonight to check the labels around my house. Now, it wont be economically friendly to my wallet to throw all those products I find; however, I will be paying extra caution while using them, and once they are empty, they will not be purchased ever again!

On my way to becoming and IOC– informed Organic Consumer.

TJ’s Haul & Favorites

So if you don’t know yet, I am a fan of Trader Joe’s! I love to do most of my grocery shopping at that store because the quality is great, they have a variety of food and organic options, and the prices are great compared to other organic stores (i.e. Whole Foods).

I will share with you my favorites as well as the new finds. Every time I go there, I buy a few items that have made it to my staples list, and %70 of the purchase would be new items to try. Shopping at TJs is like a treasure hunt. Some things you might find again, and other things, unfortunately, disappear!

I love using Coconut Oil in cooking. It adds a slight sweet flavor and is great for stir fries. Plus, coconut oil has so many uses to it other than cooking. It can be used for the hair and skin. It is a great product! I will do a separate post on it.

Their Sesame Oil is amazing. I love the flavor it adds to the food you’re cooking. All you need is a tiny drop to achieve a great flavor.

The  Chile Lime chicken patties are so flavorful and delicious. You can either pan fry them or grill them. They are such a great source of protein with low carbs and low fat. It is a great choice, if you are watching what you are eating. Grill a patty, brush some mustard on a whole wheat/multi grain Arnold Sandwich Thins, add some lettuce and maybe a couple slices of avocados, and enjoy the healthy deliciousness! The Chicken Quesadillas is another delicious choice. It only takes a few minutes to be ready. It is great for those of us who are busy and rarely have time to prepare dinner from scratch.

TJ’s frozen section is a treasure to me. I lease to work at 6a.m. and usually do not get home till 6p.m. If I were to go to the gym that day, I wont be home till 8p.m. So, when can I ever cook or prepare dinner from scratch? NEVER. That’s when TJ’s come in place and help me out. TJs has a great selection of healthy options that fit easily in my busy and rushed life style. That’s why I am obsessed with it.

Here are more of our favorites. The vegetable Bird’s Nests are basically vegetable tempura. They are not the healthiest choice, but having one at lunch certainly doesn’t hurt as they are super delicious. The Lemon Grass Chicken are great as a snack with a home made mustard and Sriracha sauce. The Channa Masala chickpeas are so flavorful and make a great side dish with grilled chicken and rice. One other favorite is the Potatoe Pancakes. They make a great side on your breakfast plate, served with a fat free spoon of sour cream. Deliciousness.

More of our favorites are these:

The Sea Salt & Lemon Ppper grinders. TJ’s has a wide range of these grinders and each is less than $2. The Low Calorie Lemonade was one of my first items I ever bought at TJ’s and it’s been a favorite ever since. We love it as it is a bit sour and very refreshing! The Saffron is a great spice to have and add to your chicken marinade. And finally that Rustic Pan Bello bread is magnificent. Super tender, yet with a crunchy crust. It is one of our new favorites.

Both the Mixed Berry and Mango Passion Granola Cereals are the hubby’s favorites. They are so crunchy and the fruits actually taste like fruit. Great source of fiber!

I fixed dinner last night using the Marinated Chicken Breast and the Kimchi rice. Oh don’t they sound so wonderful together or what? We loved them! The Rice is on the spicy side, but so flavorful. Oh boy, and the chicken came out so juicy and tender. Here you go, more things are getting added to our favorites. Keep in mind that they were both very low in fat! TJ’s is such a treasure box.

The next three pictures are new items that we haven’t tried yet. However, I am pretty sure they will end up to be part of our favorites.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and I hope I inspired you to go do your own treasure hunt at Trader Joe’s!

Today’s Hautelook Deal

Hautelook has some amazing deals once in a while. What caught my attention today is this Case-Mate Cross-Body bag. It fits all your necessities for a night out in the town. I love how it has a designated pocket for the cellphone. It will fit my IPhone perfectly. In addition, it can be worn as a clutch!

Plus the color blocking on these babies is super cute. I love all those colors, it’s a hard decision to pick just one!

Recommendation: If interested, get it before they sell out.

Edgy meets feminine outfit of the day

Image

20120302-113219.jpg

I’ve been experimenting with different trends lately. There are some trends out there that I don’t necessarily love, but for the sake of change, I try to give them a shot. I fell in love with this sheer maxi skirt. Although, I usually stay away from maxi and flowy skirts [I am short], this one caught my attention. I absolutely love leopard print, and I lately haven’t given it any attention. I wanted to make-up with it today and wear it out!

Here are the details:
Top from H&M, leather jacket from Forever21, flats from TJMaxx, belt from Forever21, skirt from Lulu’s, chains from Arki Jewelry, bracelet from Target, ring from Hautelook.

Gold Digger

I used to hate gold tone accessories. In a fact, I didn’t own any piece of jewelry in gold tone. I always thought it was for older women and never got to like it. However, for the past couple seasons, gold tones started attracting me more and more everyday.

Now, I am totally obsessed with gold tones. I do not wear silver toned jewelry as much anymore! Actually, many times I find myself not wearing my wedding band & engagement ring simply because it doesn’t match!

Since I have olive skin tone, I love how the gold accessories compliment my skin. Here are some beautiful pieces I came across. My wishlist keeps expanding everyday. My wallet and I are in a huge trouble!

Click on me for more details and where to find these pieces.

The New Clutch

One trend I am absolutely loving this season is the Box Clutch.

Now, we girls tend to love our enormous bags where we carry all our life in. It doesn’t matter how many promises you make, to yourself,  not to carry your whole closet in there, somehow someway it ends up happening. Huge bags are so fabulous, but they are not too fab when you are trying to find your car keys that get  stashed, all the way at the bottom of the bag, with load and loads of unnecessary items on top!

Other time, logging that huge bag with you while shopping, walking around, even a night out with the friends can become very tedious. With all what’s in it, you will probably feel like you are working out your arm muscles. Seriously, many times,  this huge bag can become a substitute for an 8 pounds dumbbells, if not heavier.

The perfect solution to all this trouble is the new box clutch. They come in different sizes, styles, with and without shoulder straps, cross body strap, etc. Bottom line, you can find one that fits your style and purpose. These fabulous clutches carry the necessary items you would normally NEED. There will no room for all that extra “crap”. This is perfect for a night out, clubbing, a dinner, or even shopping. All you need in life in your credit card, a few dollars just in case, your phone, and lipstick for touch ups. We tend to over exaggerate and think we need a whole lot more, but trust me, that’s all what we need.

Here are a few clutches I fell in love with:

Mid Way Through Outfit of the Day

It is Wednesday everybody! What that means? The weekend is two days away 🙂

Since these posts seem to be the most popular, I decided to share my outfit with you for the second day in the row. Disclaimer: the skirt might be too short for such a “conservative” environment, but I am still in my twenties and eventually, one day, the co-workers around me will either get used to it, or even retire! Having a huge age gap, between co-workers, creates such a difficulty especially when it comes to fashion. Anyways, here is what I wore to work today:

Bag from Asos.com, Bracelets from H&M, Blanc Bomb Ring by JewelMint, Chain from my Etsy Store, Coat from a small Boutique, Cardigan from Forever21, Top from UrbanOutfitters, Skirt from UrbanOutfitters, Flats from TJMaxx.

I Love TJs

Image

20120228-154133.jpg

One of my absolute favorite grocery stores is Trader Joe’s. I love that store. Every time I shop there, I end up purchasing new favorites. I always go back, buy our favorites plus new items to try. Soon, I will dedicate a whole post to our TJ’s favorites, but for now I want to share this new favorite: the Freeze Dried Strawberries. These babies are unsweetened and unsulfured, they are low in sugar and carbs, and contain fiber. They make a perfect snack and can be used with yogurt and on top of your cereal. I love them because they aren’t too sweet, actually, they are a bit soury lemony sweet. My perfect combo!

I love you Trader Joe’s!

2012 Spring Trends

We all can feel the spring approaching. As I was driving to work this morning, I noticed how it wasn’t as dark anymore. The sun actually came out earlier than what it had been doing for the past few months. This observation instantly drew a smile on my face and lifted my mood (I am sure we all can agree that driving to work, at 6am in the morning, is not the ideal thing to do!).

Spring is my favorite season of all, especially when you live in Virginia. Virginia has one of the worst winters (well not this year, at least we haven’t seen anything yet), and it has one of those nasty hot and sticky humid summers; therefore, spring and fall are the best seasons in this state. However, spring always wins!

Spring = bright sunny skies + a nice breeze + Easter + Blooms + Cherry Blossom in DC + My Birthday! On top of all that, this year Spring 2012 means Pastel colors + Neon colors+ A-symmetrical skirts + Spikes and studs + Chunky Chain Accessories + tiny jewelry pieces + Brogue shoes + loafers + and another trend that is going to help us transition from winter to Spring and stick with us for a while is the Ankle Boot!

Here are a few ankles boots that you can put your hands on. I have 1, 2, 3 as my favorites. I think they would look extra cute with a bodycon mini neon skirt, a flowy pastel sheer shirt, a couple layers of chain necklaces, a stackable rings, and finally a subtle eye look with a bold lip color!

Indulge Yourself in Sweetness..

Last weekend, I hosted a spa party for my girls. A skin analyst specialist was there featuring an amazing machine that analyzes up to three layers of the skin. Through that machine, you get to know your skin better, learn where your trouble spots are, get educated on their condition, and get help and recommendations for treating them.

Many of the girls learn that their skin wasn’t actually the type they’ve always thought it was. For example, my sister had always the impression that her skin was oily to combination. However, it turned out that her skin is Normal to dry! They were all impressed with the machine and the products that were promoted. A few things I love about their products: they are all natural, cruelty free, work amazingly, and are made in the United States. [I will have more in depth review on the products]

One tip I need to share with you here is, Please Use Sunscreen Every Day of Your Life! This small step can save you so much in the future. Sunscreen now = Less Wrinkles in the future. Trust me!

Other than impressing my guests with the special facial treatments, they were all in love with the other treats. Dessert. Something you need to know about me is that I absolutely LOVE Red Velvet! That weekend was the one following Valentine’s Day, so what a better way to celebrate than having Red Velvet treats everywhere?

I love decorating; therefore, I enjoyed making a cute display out of those delicious treats. I got so many compliments on the dessert and the food. It always feels good when you leave a great impression on others. These little things make you, and the others around you, so Happy.

The menu was:

Red Velvet mini cups

Strawberry Dipped in Chocolate

Pink Champagne

Vitamin Shots

Avocado Cherry Tomato Salad

Caesar Salad

Margarita Pizza

Wings

[My family owns a few pizzerias; therefore, our guests always request having pizza and wings at our parties, because they are that delicious]

The day went by fast and everyone enjoyed their time. It was great having the girls over. I haven’t hung out with them since my wedding. We had a fantastic day together and hopefully will be planning another get together soon.

Seriously, what’s a better day than relaxing, sipping champagne, and indulging in deliciousness?

I cannot get over the Red Velvet!

Meeting the President

Monday the 19th of February, businesses and schools were all closed celebrating the United States’ President’s Day. I moved to the U.S. seven years ago; therefore, I am not a native to this country and I do not know a lot about its history.

The hubby has a friend who is fascinating. He is basically an open history encyclopedia! History is his passion. His knowledge does not stop to the history of the U.S., but it stretches out to the other side of the world, to the side I came from.

Since we live in Virginia, we thought it would be a great opportunity to go with him to Mt. Vernon and visit George Washington’s house, especially when its free to get in on that day. I have never been there, and I do not know much about G.W. except that he was the first president of the U.S.

Early in the morning

Our field trip started early on Monday morning, before it got crowded in Mt. Vernon. We were accompanied with a couple other friends of the hubby. Since we are in mid February, you can imagine how cold it is in VA in the mornings. It was so cold that I felt like my nose and ears were going to fall off while we were waiting for them to open the gate. The gate opened at 8 a.m. and we immediately started walking towards G.W.’s house. We did the house tour, which was very interesting. We were in the same rooms, walked through the hallways this man walked, and touched the stair rails he touched hundreds of years ago! They explained that everything in the house was original, even the vivid green pain that most of the rooms were painted with. Did you know that the color green was a symbol of wealth during that time?

G.W. Porch

A few hours later, the weather turned out to be gorgeous. We enjoyed walking around his land, through the forest trails, and beside the Potomac River. We saw such gorgeous scenery and enjoyed learning about G.W.

The dock of Mt. Vernon

I definitely recommend visiting Mt. Vernon especially on a nice day!

View of the Potomac River

It is such a beautiful place to visit. We had a great time with the friends and learned a lot. It sure makes a huge difference when you have a friend full of knowledge. We will definitely make another trip to Mt. Vernon in the future!

I hope you enjoyed the few pictures I took to document the beauty of that place.
